How to Use LinkedIn Polls to Generate Leads
(Not Just Engagement)

Most people run polls on LinkedIn for fun.
They’re looking for engagement, not insight.
But when you set up a poll with intent, it becomes more than a post—it becomes a prospect filter.
Here’s how I do it.
Step 1: Start With an Overarching Question
Your poll should be broad enough to get responses from your entire audience but targeted enough to reveal who’s a real prospect.
Example from my LinkedIn growth coaching niche:
“What are your goals on LinkedIn?”
A. Grow my personal brand
B. Monetize on LinkedIn
C. Develop more skills
D. Just here for the content
Step 2: Interpret the Responses
This is where most people drop the ball—they collect the engagement but never use it.
If someone selects A or B, they’re a potential prospect for me as a LinkedIn growth coach.
If they select C or D, they’re not in my target market (at least not right now).
Step 3: Turn Poll Results Into Leads
Once you know who’s interested, the next step is connection and conversation.
Send a personalized connection request: “Thanks for voting on my LinkedIn goals poll—would love to connect and swap ideas on growth.”
Follow up with a value-first message: share a free resource, invite them to a workshop, or offer a quick audit.
Step 4: Apply This to Your Niche
You can replicate this in any industry:
A fitness coach could ask: “What’s your biggest challenge right now?” (Strength, fat loss, energy, nutrition)
A career coach could ask: “What’s your #1 career goal in 2025?” (New role, promotion, skill development, networking)
A software founder could ask: “What’s your biggest productivity roadblock?” (Emails, meetings, tools, unclear priorities)
Each answer points directly to who’s ready for your solution.
Why This Works Better Than Traditional Lead Magnets
Traditional approach: Create content → Hope prospects find you → Cold outreach
Poll approach: Ask strategic questions → Prospects self-identify → Warm conversations
The difference? **Intent
Final Thought:
Polls are not just about engagement or A/B testing.
When done right, they’re a low-friction, high-visibility way to identify leads without a single cold message.
